The Measurement

What are the key conditions for an optimal bike position?
The three essentials where a bicycle measurement must meet are shown below.
These three conditions are called Efficiency. Speed=Comfort

We analyze and measure your body to achieve a seating position that meets your requirements. We adapt the bike to you and not the other way around!
For a competitive cyclist, Power and Aerodynamics are the most important. He will hand in comfort rather than power and aerodynamics. A recreational cyclist will rather opt for a little more comfort, which in turn implies that there is a reduction in aerodynamics. Someone who just cycles for pleasure will prefer to sit as comfortable as possible and recognize aerodynamics as less important.
The customer is extensively questioned about his history. A complete anamnesis is of great importance for the further bicycle measurement because specific wishes and possible problems are considered.
Then his bicycle is studied and measured. A picture may also be taken in order to be able to compare the positions later. Afterwards, the person himself is measured and everything is recorded in a measurement sheet. On our practicing table your pelvis is checked to see if it is straight and it is put back straight. (Soft correction of the pelvis via AK) This allows us to make the correct adjustment without the risk of incorrect positioning due to a pelvis tilt. For example, after the treatment we almost never have to do a leg length difference correction because the pelvis is straight. (Only 5% of people have a functional leg length difference.) Thanks to our knowledge of AK and Emmett technology, we also check whether there are muscles and / or muscle groups that are not working properly and these are corrected again. With the Emmett technique we can also relax the muscles and make the right balance between agonist and antagonist. So less chance of injury. We also check whether there are any problems that need to be followed up. If necessary, we advise the client to consult an Osteopath or physiotherapist to solve the problem. We can especially help people with a recurring muscle-pelvic-neck or knee problem. We have good contacts with physiotherapists and osteopaths in different regions. If necessary, we can send the customer there if they do not know a physiotherapist or osteopath. Then a basic bike position is set according to the outcome of the measurement sheet. In this position the customer rides the bike for the first time and the fine- tuning is done. We also use a laser for specific adjustments in combination with videoanalysis. At the request of the customer we can also use the brand new LEOMO device. This device measures the different angles of the feet, knees and pelvis. Also the pelvic tilt, (Rocking and/or Rotation) and the death spot when the foot is placed at the bottem during the peddal stroke. First the seat height is determined, and this measurement is done at full power because quiet driving and driving at full power gives a different picture. Usually people sit quietly higher up on the bike but once at full power we notice that the pelvis begins to rock up and down. The saddle must then be lowered. During this adjustment, we can also use our ergometer (power up to 2000w) to check whether the customer has no difference in power between left and right leg. We can also check whether the customer is driving economically and with some adjustments we can advise the customer to do certain exercises. Whatever we do and what other well-known fitting labs are not allowed to do, we will adjust your bike to the right sizes. Other bicycle labs are not allowed to tinker with your bike because of the absence of certificate "Sector Professional Skills of the Bicycle Activities" awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. You will then receive your bike sizes and then you can go to your bicycle mechanic and they will then set your bike “approximately".
How does our measurement work? The customer warms up for about ten minutes on his bike. Measurement in cold or warmed state gives a different picture. First we take off the cleats. We do this because this is the most important item in the power transmission from foot to pedal. Any movement from knees to the outside or inside or small bends will result in loss of power and also the risk of overload injuries. (This takes about 40 minutes)
When the measurement is finished, the rider gets on his bike and if possible drives around for a while. We observe the rider and do a correction if necessary. If the new position differs too much from the previous one, the new position will be worked on in 2 or 3 steps. However, it should be taken into account that after an adjustment, it takes 2 to 4 weeks to get adapted to the new position.
When is a bike fit recommended?
- Back and neck pain. Pain in the knee and knee cavity. Sleeping hands. Feeling that you cannot fully convert your strength. When driving uphill, pull the handlebar very hard. When accelerating after a corner, you always have the need to stand on your pedals to be able to follow. Seat problems. Determine your ideal frame size (due to our years of experience we know that this is usually too large.) In fact, everyone should let themselves be measured to make sure that you are driving in a good position to avoid problems later on.

Valentijn Lauwers wins his first race on 3 July 2011, the Grand Prix Vic Van Schil for elites. Interesting detail: Valentijn had let himself be measured 4 days in advance. He had no problems, only he wanted to optimize his bike position.

Then the length seat and the setback are determined and after several adjustments we achieve the optimal sitting position. (Fine-Tuning) After approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours, the measurement is finished.

Juniors: Jelle Camps wins Jelle Camps was the fastest starter in Zeven and after one lap, there were only 8 riders in the front. Pidcock, who won every race where he started the past few weeks, accelerated halfway through the second lap and got rid of his companions. For a moment it seemed that the Brit was outstanding, but suddenly Toon Vandebosch made the connection in the front. The duo didn’t last for long, because Pidcock crashed and lost valuable time. Vandebosch did not hesitate and went on solidly. Fast starter Camps took his second breath and battled back into the race. The pace was too high for Vandebosch and Camps raced to victory. Pidcock came close to the second place, but eventually he had to make peace with a third place. For Camps it is his second victory of the season. Previously he showed himself the strongest in the Superprestige in Gieten. Yentl Bekaert, who finished at the fourth place, keeps his leading position in the World Cup with one hundred points. Toon Vandebosch is the second with 85 points, Andreas Goeman third with 75 points.

Since early 2017, we have been supporting Elke Vanhoof in the run-up to the 2020 Olympic Games. We are now conducting extensive tests on crank length, gearing and steering. We do this using the Myontec Mbody EMG pants. The first session we have done (spring 2017) involves the downsizing of the cranck length. We brought it back from 175mm to 172.5mm in the first tests. The gearing is also completely adjusted. This has resulted in an improvement of the starting speed. (Very important in BMX.) Unfortunately, we have not been able to do another session in the run-up to the European and World Championships. In a world cup competition Elke fell heavily and had a severe tendon injury in her thumb. As a result, the further adjustment has not continued.

Lotte Lopecky is testing her new Lake Shoes. Because she has a different shoe size both left and right, Lake shoes are ideally suited to solve this problem. These are available in different widths; the shoes are moldable (are first heated and then you put on the shoes so that they will fit perfectly around the foot.
Which devices do we use? Videoanalysis, Laser, and on request the Myontec Mbody and Leomo analysis devices.
